We are so excited for YOU to join us at the first ever World’s Big Sleep Out Event!

Thousands of people all over the world spend their nights sleeping on the streets, parks and under bridges. For one night, help display solidarity with and support of those experiencing homelessness and displacement. The World’s Big Sleep Out will take place in over 50 cities around the world.

Events like these would not be possible without the help and support of volunteers.

There are multiple roles that are available on Saturday or Sunday. You can browse through all available roles in the table below. Please note that volunteers must be aged 15 years or over.

    If you are part of a 'Volunteer Group' and would prefer to volunteer together please complete this section. We will do our best to keep you in the same or a nearby role. Please note that due to role availability this may not always be possible.

  • Conditions of Volunteering I acknowledge that my participation as a Volunteer is subject to and I agree to abide by the following conditions:
    All Volunteers must:
    1. Respect the rights, dignity, and worth of every individual at the Event, including participants, other volunteers, and staff.
    2. Respect all property including but not limited to the following: facilities, and all equipment.
    3. Act professionally and take responsibility for their actions, including demonstrating high standards in respect to their language and actions.
    4. Not consume any drugs or alcohol that will impair their judgement and/or ability to volunteer and assist in the Event
    5. Not discriminate against anyone based on sex, ethnicity, religion, ability or performance.
    6. Participating in a Volunteer Briefing prior to commencement of volunteering shift.
    7. Read the volunteer briefing before attending the event.
    8. Sign in at the commencement and out on the completion of each shift of volunteering at the Volunteer Check In.
    9. Wear supplied volunteer vest whilst volunteering and to abide by the required dress code.
    10. Notify the Volunteer Coordinator in advance or as soon as possibly if I am unable to attend my shift.
    11. Read and comply with the position description and guidelines for the volunteer role provided.
    Medical Treatment and Costs
    I understand that this is my responsibility to continuously monitor my own physical and mental condition during the Event, and I agree to immediately notify appropriate personnel if at any point my continued volunteer participations would create a risk or danger to myself or to others.
    In the event of an injury to me that renders me unconscious or incapable of making a medical decision, I authorise appropriate Coordinator personnel and emergency medical personnel at the Event to make emergency medical decisions on my behalf (including, but not limited to CPR and AED).
    I authorise to secure emergency medical care or transportations (i.e. QAS) when deemed necessary by the Coordinators or Event personnel and to notify my emergency contact if I am not able.
    Volunteers will be eligible for WorkCover if required.
    Media and Photography
    I grant MC and its affiliated entities or contractors and/or the media my permission and authority to use my name, image, voice, and/or likeness in any photographs videotapes, CDs, DVDs, broadcast, telecast, podcast, webcast, recordings, motion pictures, commercial advertisement, promotion materials, and/or any other record captured during the Event for any purpose whatsoever without compensation.
    I acknowledge my personal information, including photos is collected, held and used by MC for event coordination and administration purposes, MC event marketing and MC activities. Please contact us if you do not consent MC holding and/or sharing your personal information. Our privacy policy is available at www.mercys.org.au/privacy-policy.
    Communication
    I understand that my phone number and email address will be used for registration confirmation and updates about the Event. From time to time MC may also send me information on other events and activities that may be of interest.
    I am aware if I do not want to receive further communications from MC (other than information that relates to this Event) can contact the MC. I am aware if I have questions about privacy, including updating and/or changing my personal information or obtaining a copy of the MC Privacy Policy, I can contact the MC Privacy Officer via email to: privacy@mercycommunity.org.au or call on 07 3866 4160.
    ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
    I acknowledge and assume all the risks of, and incidental to, volunteering in the Event;
    1. I acknowledge that I am acting only as a volunteer and not as an employee of the Coordinators, and there is no expectation to receive any type of compensation from the Coordinators or any of the Released Parties, as defined above.
    2. I acknowledge and represent that I have no knowledge or reason to know of any personal physical or mental limitations, conditions or other restrictions other than as disclosed to the Coordinators that would make any volunteer activities personally advisable.
    3. I acknowledge that I have carefully read (or had someone else read to me) and understand this document. I am also aware that by agreeing to these Terms and Conditions, I will affect the legal rights and liabilities of myself, my heirs, next of kin, executors, administrators and successors.
    4. I agree that I willy only conduct work under the guidance and supervision of the Coordinators representative responsible for the area of work.
